"Th-They can't all be that bad dad!"

Seven year old Lilac watched her father look down at her. A long frown was spread out across his face. "Not all that bad little Lilac? Does this show you that they're not all that bad?! We're in a cage Lilac… we've been caught. You let your own curiosity get the better of you child. They're evil creatures them biggers are, but you'll not be finding out how evil this day."

Lilac grabbed his arm worriedly. "Wh-What do you mean father?"

His frown thinned a bit as he pushed her into a hole, big enough for only her to fit through. Gravity kicked in and she was forced let go of her father's arm as she fell and fell onto a sponge carelessly left on a wooden floor. The old bat was a midget, a lucky break for Lilac as all of the objects in the room were made to fit the woman's standards. If it had been a normal biggers home, the fall would have been very fatal.

"I mean they won't have you my little Lilac…" She heard him call from above. She jumped off her sponge to yell out to him, but thundering footsteps began to approach. Holding back her tears, her words, she ran, ran as fast as she could into a nearby mouse hole. She could hear the sickening cackle of the witch as she took cage that still held her poor father from the counter above. That was the last she would ever see of him again for as she made her way down the passage to a den of friendly mice she heard the woman scream. Father had no doubt used the powder…

///

That memory continued to play over and over again in Lilac's head as she cried. She knew what this was, she knew what she had woken up to. This was a jar, the sleek glass walls told her so. She couldn't see, it was too dark, but just by feel alone she knew what had happened. She had been captured all because of her own idiocy once again! The whole reason she had been outside today was not to just forage, but pass away boredom by letting her curiosity take hold of her being. It made her hide in small places watching the bigger go about his daily life. And now she was captured because of it. Had what happened in the past taught her nothing? Her father was probably in heaven shaking his head and sighing right now' no doubt ashamed of his daughter for making the same mistake once more.

Weeping ever more she reached for her satchel. Every littler was equipped with a small jar of powder; a sickly purple powder that wasn't a kind substance. When a littler poured the powder on oneself, it would disintegrate them into nothingness. What was said before was a lie… littlers had been caught many times before Lilac, but that was only a technical term. Every littler would use the powder to kill themselves. No matter what their world had to be kept secret…

"The secret m-must be k-k-kept…" she sobbed as her hand grabbed air. Eyes going wide she felt her sides, she felt around the jar, but there was no satchel. The bigger must have taken it, or whatever had thrown her away had also thrown it off of her being! This wasn't good… she really was caught now! She was going to be the first littler to have ever been successfully captured!!

"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" She wailed pounding her head into the glass. "Why! Do! I! Have! To! Be! So! STUPID!" After the eleventh time she slumped down to just cry until it was over. If it would ever be over. Mother and father had always gone on about how humans were disgusting creatures. They would torture a littler for as long as they could before killing them.

"But… that doesn't make any….sense…" She murmured, sitting back up. "If… If none of us have technically been captured, then how can they have… I mean… they can't have ever tortured someone if a littler uses the powder to vanish."

Lilac let that thought tumble inside her head for the longest time. None of it ever added up before she was drawn away from her thoughts as the drawer opened and light, along with a biggers hand, entered.

///

Renold was just finishing putting on his socks for the day. It was a Saturday and the weather report said there'd be warm weather. Warm, but not annoying. Perfect for a quick round of golf, or the driving range. The course was always busy on days like today. He was about to pull on his shoes when he remembered the drawer.

Tossing his shoe away he stood and moved to it. Last night had been hectic. All of it had been real, but would this next part be real? After the cops took away the thief (and fixed his door…) he had believed the tiny girl was nothing more then an illusion conjured by his mind from being woken up after only an hour of rest. None of that was going to stop him from checking though. If the jar was still there with the girl inside… then it was real and he would accept it, but what to do once he did?

Drawing in a deep breath he slowly slid the drawer open. The light that entered caught the glass of the jar and made it glint. His hand reached inside and grasped the object firmly before he carefully lifted it out to meet his eyes. They went wide when they saw the tiny little girl inside staring just as wide eyed as he back at him fearfully.

"It was all real," he breathed, sitting on the end of his bed.

He let his eyes dance across her tiny form. She was as he remembered her from the night before. Her skin was still pale and her hair was still that of a lilac flower. The dress was also still there, but now… now he could see her eyes. They were a dark purple that were puffy and red from crying. She must have worried he was a monster that was going to grind her bones for bread. He didn't know… he just remembered what the giant said he'd do to Jack in that old children's fable.

He figured it would be best to comfort her. She would be hungry too. Scratching his chin in thought he decided to go to the kitchen and let her loose on island counter in the center of kitchen. That way she could move around but at the same time she wouldn't be able to escape.

--
Now at the counter top with it cleared off he took a deep breath and opened the jar. He could now hear the girl whimpering inside very clearly. It hurt him a bit to know she was THAT afraid of him, but then again… she was like a mouse compared to him. Small and fragile. He'd no doubt act this way too.

Carefully Renold tilted the girl's prison over till she slowly slid out onto the counter top. She tried to stay inside, but she couldn't seem to get a grip. Putting the jar in the sink he pulled up a chair and sat to watch what she did next.

"Uhm… hello?"

///

Lilac back-crawled as fast as she could away from the bigger hovering over her. Her arm slipped and she yipped when she found herself looking down at a fatal plummet to the floor below. There wasn't any safe way down on the island counter. Heck the only way she could ever get up here was when the bigger staring at her left a broom leaning against it.

"Careful now," he said worriedly as she felt him pinch her foot gently and tug her back onto the counter. Lilac screamed at his touch and started using her other foot to kick his finger away, too terrified to realize what she was doing was a pointless struggle. When he let go she stood up and searched the counter top for anything, anything at all that could be used as a weapon, but the smooth granite had been wiped clean.

A cabinet closed. She swirled around and saw something a little unexpected. A milk chocolate kiss was at her feet.

The giant over her rubbed the back of his head. "Uh… I… Hope you're not a dark chocolate person… heh…"

Lilac blinked and looked between him and the morsel. Her hands gingerly picked up the sweet treat. She turned it this way and that keeping her eyes peered for any sort of poison or… or… something deadly, but there was none. She took a bite and the wonders started. A smile crossed her face as she enjoyed her favorite food that she had only tasted ten or so times in her entire lifetime.

"Feeling better?"

Snapping to attention she held the kiss like a weapon towards the bigger. "N-No!"

The bigger let out a sigh. "Oh thank goodness… you speak English at the very least. Look I am not going to-"

"Hurt me r-right?! Y-You're lying I bet." She stepped back and hugged the kiss to her stomach as a tear rolled down her cheek. "Y-You c-crushed Squeaky…"

"Squeaky? Who's… Oh… the mouse… Uhm… you probably won't believe me, and I suppose I can't blame someone of your… eh… stature… but I didn't crush that mouse. You see… a thief broke into the place last night. He must have kicked you off your friend and… well... flattened him under his foot."

Lilac winced. That was a TMI for her, yet she remembered someone other than the bigger in front of her speaking before losing consciousness. Looking down at the kiss she let out a long, dreary sigh then nodded and looked back to him.

"I… I believe you…" The tiny girl sat down to take another bite. "I… F-Father was right. I let curiosity get the better of me again… C-Could you please just, get it over with as fast as possible?"

He looked confused. "Get… what… over with?"

"Y-You know… wh-what all biggers do with littlers. T-Torture!"

She was surprised to see him cock an eye brow and give her a look that said, 'are you insane?' "I… what? I'm going to guess you've been through some sort of horrific moment little girl, but I am not like that. Really I'd rather learn more about you; I mean it's not everyday you meet someone who's as big as your thumb. Are you a real girl or some sort of tiny robot the government is working on to spy on people?"

Lilac dropped the chocolate so she could point at him dramatically. "I am not a little girl! I am fifteen bigger! I don't know what a robot is and I wasn't made by head head biggers! And… and… did daddy lie to me?" She asked herself stepping back again. He seemed so nice, but he was still a bigger. She was having trouble thinking of what... well, what to think now.

///

Renold frowned. He reached out to gently stroke her small head. His touch made her sniffle and look back up at him. There was still doubt and she backed away.

"Don't touch..."

"I'm sorry. Look, I… I don't know who your parents are, but they no doubt said those things to protect you, alright? I might be nice, but not ever ehm… what did you call me… a bigger? Not every bigger will be like me. Like the thief that broke into my house for example. He crushed your friend and almost killed you." He paused to let a small smile spread across his lips. "Also I didn't mean little as in your age, I meant littler because you are LITTLE. Heck you even called yourself a 'littler.' Here, if it'll help you trust me just a little bit…"

He scooped her up in his palm along with the kiss. He could feel her tense up, but she made no move to escape. After a short walk to a nearby mouse hole in the kitchen he set her down and stepped back. "You can go home now, but uh, don't hesitate to say hi. You're kinda cute," he blushed hiding his face. "I mean… I'd like to talk with you more. You must have some interesting stories with a height like that. Well, uhm, see ya…"

With a small wave he turned to go finish putting on his shoes to go golfing. He only made two steps before something tugged on his right sock. Looking down the little girl was there. "Y-Yes?"

"M-Maybe we could talk right now…?" She asked, mumbling a bit. He could see it in her eyes thought it was hard with how tiny they were. She was just as curious about him as he was of her.

Golfing could wait until next week…
